Current Salary Issues

The situation about faculty members' salary issue is escalating. It is clear that only few interested members are taking the heat, this is usual and all the rest are watching , perhaps, waiting for the right moment to get in.

The initiative is taken by the new team in the University Faculty Association led by a team of dedicated faculty members. Although many are interested to see them fried but i am definitely not one of the.

There success is our success. The issue to be raise: DO YOU THINK THE CURRENT APPROACH TO THE SALARY ISSUE IS CORRECT ? WHY? or WHY NOT?

People in charge for the salary rise like Dr. sahar and his group has no choice but to increase pressure (in my opinion). The reasons are:
1. If it is not approved now... it will take 2 years to do. The main reason is that the parliament will have other important issues within the coming period before election.
2. ... What are the other alternatives? They approved the salary increase for the judges up to 3300 KD over the salary... why they ignore us? Remember that in the 70's we were equal with them in terms of salary.
3. No better chance than this time. Both the University and PAAET representatives are sincere, fighters and not afraid from getting our rights. May Allah be with them.

See what Al Bagdadi wrote in El-Syasah newspaper today:
للعلم وبمناسبة مطالبة الدكاترة في الجامعة بزيادة المرتبات, ساعات العمل للدكتور لا تتعدى سبعا وعشرين ساعة في الشهر, يعني عمل تسع ساعات كحد اقصى في الاسبوع, بواقع ثلاث اسابيع. والاسبوع الرابع يروح بين ضياع الاسبوعين الاول والاخير وشوية مؤتمرات. ويطالبون بزيادة المرتب! اتقوا الله في المال العام.

What do u think?

Dr. Al-Baghdady has a very good valid point. Really, if we look at the average productivity of a university faculty is extremely low. Now as of WHY it is low? this needs assessments.

Let me go through some quick analysis:

1) Some faculty members work 100 hours a week and other works only barely 9 hours a week

2) On average per week, 12 hours plus 10 hours committee works and meetings so if we evaluate a PhD holder's hourly service according for 100KD/hr then the total salary is 2200 KD per week , so multiply by 4 then we have 8800 KD per month

3) If we follow Al-Badghday argument that it is 27 hours , then we are talking about 2700 KD per month. conclusion, we still need the salary raise ;)

Now if some colleges believe that their PhD holders deserve less per hour basis , meaning like 50 KD / hr then it is up to them, perhaps political sciences are satisfied

I would appreciate that Dr. Al-Baghdady to refuse the raiseif approved and donate it to others who

1) Have no houses yet

2) Breaking neck loans

3) On verge of poverty, like the person who replied to Al-Zaid's article

4) No other financial support except their salaries becuase the rules in the country deprived them to do anything else except be slave in the university

So my message to Dr. Ahmad if you really care about the Public Money, i would appreciate if you retire now to save some for the coming young generation of staff who are barely surviving and i am talking about the majority NOT the wealthy one who uses the salary as a pocket money :))) and they recieve the highest salary in KU, you know what i mean ;)
